Timmy’s response

I decided to bring my concerns to the attention of Timmy Hortons and sent them an email. I thought I’d share the nice response with you in case you share my same concerns:

Dear Lindsay,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us at our Head Office.  We appreciate your feedback regarding our contest cups.

Our ‘Roll Up The Rim’ Promotion is a very exciting time for both our customers and our company. The contest is in place to reward our loyal customers, such as yourself, and to thank you for your patronage.

Throughout the Roll Up The Rim contest, our take-out cups serve two purposes; one as the coffee cup, and the other as the contest “entry form”. If a customer has a hot beverage in a china cup, an entry form of some kind is still required, and in this case, it is the paper cup.

In the past we have investigated the option of having a scratch card rather than the roll up tab, however, having scratch cards printed would actually increase the paper usage because our cups are already going to be printed regardless of the contest, and thus, serve a ‘double purpose’. Nonetheless, a copy of your comments and suggestion for scratch cards have been forwarded to the appropriate personnel in our Marketing Department for
review.

It is through feedback from valued customers, such as yourself, that we have been able to continually grow as a company.  If you have any further questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you again for contacting us and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again soon.

Yours Truly,
THE TDL GROUP CORP.

It’s all about marketing!

Yesterday, I attended a Distingushed Speaker Lecture at the University. These things happen about once a month and are usually fairly interesting. Anyway, this months guest lecturer was an old professor from UVic so I had some extra motivation to attend. The title of the talk was

“Research Challenges in Cognitive Radio Networks”

The idea of the talk being that right now people buy bands of frequencies for cell phone use (or whatever) and only use a portion of the band. In New York City (a huge wireless user) only 13% of the capacity is being used. Therefore, lots of research is going into determining how to use this under-utilization of the airwaves….

I dork-gress.

So, there was around 25-30 people at the talk which is fairly normal for these talks. However, I really think they could have jammed more people into the room. How?   Well, they should have marketed the talk

“Chance to Win a 2008 Toyota Matrix”

You see these things always have coffee and cookies. Well, since it’s RUTRTW time that’s what was served. So, I attended this talk with a chance to win a 2008 Toyota Matrix….

Unfortunately, I have to Play Again!

Keep on Rolling!

So, as most of you know (if you don’t know where have you been?) Tim Hortons is having their big Roll up the rim to win (RUTRTW) contest.   So to commemorate this event I’ve added a little widget to the sidebar on my right to track my progress.  I figure once I get to the double digits I might start forgetting my record.

Side note: How sad have I become?  Have I been hanging out with too many competitive / super great awesome people that I have to track my RUTRTW record?

A  friend of mine at work and I were talking and we think the reason I like RUTRTW so much is that it’s the closest to Vegas you can get without going to Vegas.  You see in Vegas you play the slot machines, tables, roulette or whatever to get the free beer.  I realize that I’ll lose (with some smmmalll chance of winning) but I figure the beer only costs whatever the time at the machine costs.

In a similar fashion, the RUTRTW only costs whatever the coffee costs!   It’s a bit of a win-win  drink-lose situation if you ask me.

In other much more exciting and less rambling-on manner.  My brother is having a baby tomorrow!   How neat is that?   Good luck Kev & Tamara!

A barrel o’ monkeys

A little saturday song for everyone.

Hey hey we’re the monkey’s,

People say we’re monkeying around,

But we’re too busy doing all kinds of stuff like painting, training, ultimate, disc golf but not singing

To be monkeying around

Oh wait! We did monkey around today over at Heather’s house and here are some pics.

More later and hopefully of some before and after pictures of our painting job… once we finish the after part.

Money spent…

Tonight we had another session of our training. Was a good session and by good I mean we got WORKED OVER. Lindsay and I have never really run intervals before. For htose that haven’t felt the pain.  Intervals (typically) are those exercises where you run a certain distance in a certain time and then have the same time to rest. Repeat way too many times….

The intervals in this case was two laps of 160m track in 70-75 seconds. Which I have no idea if that’s ‘good’ or not. Let me tell you though… it’s hard. Especially number 3, 4, 5 & 6.

Besides that I have a little rant.  My rant is how much the American Presidency Race (or whatever this candidate race is called) is costing… If we go to the CNN Election Center page we can see that Hillary Clinton has spent $80 MILLION and Obama has spent $85 MILLION! I also love the part when you break down the people who dropped out of the race.

  • Edwards -> $36 Million
  • Richardson -> $13 Million
  • Dodd ->$10 Million
  • Biden -> $10 Million
  • Kucinich-> $3.5 Million

Did those last 4 really think they had a chance to be president? Seriously, did they?  Were they really that sure that they’d risk $3.5 million+ dollars on this? What a waste of money. And yes, I do understand the importance of this job.  However, maybe their should be some sort of cap on spending for a campaign.

Either way that’s $237.5 Million dollars worth of campaigning, SO FAR! And, I’m glad we’ll have to go through a similar situation when the democrats and republicans face each other. All I know for sure is that that money could feed one or two people….

End of rant.

Killing Time

We have to play ultimate again tonight at 10:30…  ouch!   I’m sure it’ll be fun but 10:30 – midnight on a sunday night just makes a painful Monday morning.  But enough whinning.

Yesterday we played some squash at the University.  While I was getting changed I heard a guy say.  “did you see anyone go in here? All my stuff’s gone”    The guy was in a towel and just went to shower and left his locker unlocked.   Unfortunately, no one saw anything so this guy had to borrow clothes from a friend.   Man, do I hate thieves.

In other news, it was Susan’s birthday on Friday and for her birthday we gave her the gift of technology!     You guessed it, a blog!    BobandSusan.net  Hopefully she’ll enjoy writing on the blog.  And as you can see from one of her recent posts she gets some quality tech support (aka, thesills).

oh! and I found this picture on a Jeremy’s Facebook page.  It’s from September 2006 at UPA regionals.  I thought it was a sweet picture as you can tell I’m totally going to and the guy is making an amazing play.  I’m going with thrower error on this one because I foggily remember the play and did my best to salvage it.   Either way, at least I’m not looking like a total tool.  I’ve also attached some other pictures from the tournament.  Pretty sweet pics!  You can see more on his flickr page.

Busy, Busy, Funny, Funny

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. We’ve been ummm. busy?

First off, Happy Birthday to Susan who’s birthday is tomorrow. However, by the time she reads this it’ll be her birthday (or past it). We sure hope you had a great birthday Susan!

Last night we did our Wednesday night get “our asses handed to us by a trainer” training. It was a pretty good session. We had to do these ‘quick feet’ drills . “Apparently,” I don’t have ‘quick feet’ because it took me forever to figure out the drill. Then when I finally did it felt like I was falling over while doing it. Pretty sure having quick feet and falling over doesn’t help in ultimate. I’ll let you know come April/May.

Finally, I wanted to post some funny videos that I’ve seen online recently. The first is from the Superbowl commercials. The second is from Jimmy Kimmel a late night talk show host. Enjoy!

Crank it

Last night was “bring a friend night” to my hip hop class. Just for clarification it is Lindsay writing this blog. I brought my sister since I haven’t seen her since my wedding in July and I was beginning to forget what she looked like. At the class we learned how to “crank it” to the song “Soulja Boy”. If you would also like to learn how to crank it, check out this link on You Tube. There were a lot of videos to choose from so I tried to find one of someone who looks about as ridiculous as we did learning it. If you can’t learn from the video, feel free to ask myself, my sister, Marcie, Gindl or Mauri for a private lesson.

Parking ticket-booo!

While getting our pedicure the other day, Jeff and I got a parking ticket. It’s my first parking ticket EVER…I survived 27 years without ever getting one and BAM, there goes my perfect record. I guess only 12 count as I’ve only been driving for that long, and I had to mention the small details as a lot of smart asses read my blog.

Anyhoo, being the good samaritans that we are, we plugged the meter for 1hr 20min, airing on the side of caution for our 45 min. pedicure. The metermaid must have been circling like a hawk, because 10 mins after our time expired we got a $30 ticket. So lame!!!  Now our “free pedicure” has cost us $50 ($20 tip plus $30 ticket).

The only good thing to come out of this is a brilliant idea. When you get a ticket you have the option to pay $30 in 21 days, $40 in 31 days, and it goes up from there. A penalty payment program. Well, I might just adopt this. Playing ultimate can be the worst for collecting money from teammates. League fees, tournament fees, group dinners, etc. When the demographics state the average ultimate player make $60,000, it sure is hard to get money out of some people. So, next time I collect league fees I might send out an email. Pay me by next week and it’s $20, in two weeks and it’s $30. The city of Calgary can do it, and they have a heck of a lot more money then I do, so why can’t I?
